Sinus Surgery

Sinus surgery, often referred to as endoscopic sinus surgery, is typically performed to clear blocked sinuses and improve drainage. The most common type of this surgery is Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), in which an endoscope is inserted into the nose to give the surgeon a clear view of the sinuses and the natural pathways are opened to provide improved clearance of the sinus cavities. Specialized instruments are used to remove bone or tissue that is blocking the sinus openings, allowing mucus to drain properly and air to flow through the sinus cavities. The goal of sinus surgery is to alleviate chronic inflammation, reduce the frequency and severity of sinus infections, and improve breathing. It's usually considered after conservative treatments, such as medication and nasal irrigation, have failed. Recovery time varies, but many patients experience significant relief from their symptoms following the procedure. Revision sinus surgery, image-guided sinus surgery, and frontal sinus surgery may be necessary, requiring rhinology expertise from sinus specialists.
